I know everyone hates them, however they are great for resources when you are running low and to train your crew
Ground missions
It is pretty much a gamble, but you can stack the odds in your favor.
Use the Defend option always unless he charges (diamond over the enemy) more than once. If he shoot after one charge, the shot gets dissipated. After two charges, it will damage you, and after three it will kill you. Many times after the first charge (and maybe multiple defenses) he might shoot and the charging dissipates. If you shoot him, it also dissipates
So in essence you only have to decide what to do when he charges. Many repeat a similar sequence, so you can try to predict the pattern before deciding to shoot. Some opponents you shoot just after the first charge, others you need to wait multiple defenses before they shoot.
If you manage to reach the boss with two crew, you probably will win
Remember to take at least 3 crew, otherwise you will probably die Also use your crew with the highest HP. Having a good attack helps, but you survive depending on your HP. The idea here, is to let them shoot themselves (when their shot bounces off your shield)
Ship to Ship
This are usually easy and you can win them with minimal damage or none. Thou some are tricky and you need to watch was is going on. Otherwise you can loose, usually by timeout. I find these as a safe way to level up your new crew members
In the mission which has only boarders, place crew in the reactor rooms. This will kill the boarders, even if you don't have a way to destroy their teleport room. Then just shoot at a reactor or two. Watch the timer.
