A little note on tournaments ...
In early 2018 Savy completely revamped the play style and reward system for the monthly tournaments. A new currency only awarded from tournament victories was added and a new store was opened with the intent of giving players another way to earn many tournament prizes if they do not place in the top 50 individual captains or the number 1 Fleet for the month.
Here is a quick breakdown of how these tournaments are run now.
A new menu option option appears when you open the "Mission" menu.
Displayed now with the countdown timer is the countdown to the end of the month and the current Tournament status. If you click the "i" icon it will bring you to this new menu.
Across the top is the calendar of what status the tournament is for that month. The first three are pretty much the same. The intent is to increase the excitement through the month by giving each week a different name. It begins with the "Preseason." Next is "Drafting," and then "Qualifying." There is no in game difference for these stages, only a helpful guide to get ready. The last week of the tournament is all that really matters. Clicking the "Dove" symbol will open the new store and allow you to spend earned doves from your tournament rewards.
Be careful how you spend your doves! A lot of items for sale in this new store are available in the daily store as well or in the market. This is the only place to spend your Doves but they don't come easily. Currently, a good judgment of value is 1 Dove = 10 Bux. So something like Meowy there being sold for 35 Doves is a great deal considering he is usually sold for 600 to 900 Bux when available in the store, where the cat bed when sold in the store is usually around 900 bux (some prices have increased since the opening of the store so beware of trends changing) it is not as great of a deal. Like anything in real life or Pixel Starships, what you are usually seeing here is a convenience. Get these items now for a higher price, or wait for a better price when released later for sale.
Continuing with the tournament rules... Before, it was simply who had the most trophies was the victor for the month. Trophies still play a part, but only to position the fleets into the different divisions. The divisions are shown below.
Everyone is placed into their division by total trophy count of ACTIVE members in the fleet. To be active you must log in at least within 2 weeks of your last logout, otherwise you will be displayed with a "Zzz" icon indicating you are inactive and your trophies will not count in any tournament tallies. Once the final week begins, you now must battle for "Stars." To earn stars you must battle ships in your division. You may still battle any ship you come across and receive the normal rewards, but equal Division battles will now only count toward the tournament. The match will display how many stars a target is worth if they are in your division like so...
Much like the number of trophies earned, the number of stars is based on how you rank in the normal Leagues (Gold, Gold +, Diamond, etc.) compared to your opponent.
The goal is to earn as many stars as possible during week 4. Different Fleets will have different requirements or goals so make sure you find the one you will fit best. You can see your earned running total of stars on your fleet roster screen. It will slowly fade between trophies and stars so you can see how you are performing.
